We decided to try out the caves at Cueva del Indio, which are quite different to the others. Very easy going with no guide or lights needed. For only $5 CUC each, its very good value, including the boat ride.
After an 8km drive from Vinales in our little rental car we arrived at Cueva del Indio caves. We werent sure where the entrance was so parked the car in the first car park we saw, then were asked to pay $2 CUC for parking, we said well go park across the road and the price dropped to $1 CUC, ok it would be safe here so we paid up.
What we didnt realise is further down the road is the other entrence which offers plenty of free parking!
After paying our $5 CUC entry fee over, we werent sure what to do next as no one said anything. So we just followed the path which lead up some steps past a guy playing his guitar to the entrance to the caves.
No touch needed as there was plenty of lighting within the caves. Big wide concrete stairs and walkways made these caves very easy going.
After about 10mins we arrived at the place where the boat picks you up and takes you off for a gental spin through more caves. This only took about 5mins and were then dropped outside at the end. Plenty of opportunities to buy souvenirs on your way out.
It’s a good job these caves only cost $5 CUC each, I wouldn’t want to be paying any more to see them. Very suited to people who are less active with an easy walk plus a small boat ride. Good value.
