Getting to Tenerife

Tenerife lies on the opposite the west coast of Africa (300 kilometres from the African coast) in the Atlantic Ocean. It takes about 4 hours to fly to Tenerife Northern Europe.

by Air (Plane)

There are many direct flights to Tenerife from many major cities of Europe and the world. Flying to the other islands of the Canary Islands and then getting to Tenerife by ferries is another option for getting to the island. The national airline for Tenerife is the Iberian Airways.

There are two airports in Tenerife that include; Tenerife South Reina Sofia Airport (TFS) and Tenerife North Airport (TFN).

Tenerife South (Sur) Airport (Tel: +34 91 321 10 00 ; 902 404 704) is the busiest one that all flights arrive and depart to mainly European destinations. Tenerife South Airport is located about 60 km. to the south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Tenerife North (Norte) Airport (Tel: +34 91 321 10 00 ; 902 404 704 ; 922 635 999) is the smaller one and mostly domestic flights from Spain are organized. Tenerife North Airport is located about 10 km. to the west of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Car hire is an option for getting around the island. Many of those car hire agencies have offices at the airport offering cheap car hire in Tenerife.

by Sea (Ferries) from Spain

It is possible to get to Tenerife by sea from the city of Cadiz in Spain and via Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Trasmediterranea (; Phone: 902 454 645) is the ferry company for travelling via Cadiz. There are regular ferries once a week from Cadiz to Arrecife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and La Palma.

There are also regular ferries between the other islands of the Canaries.
