I booked Casa Dussac in Playa Larga because it was a great price, was upstairs and looked really nice. Excellent choice, the food was amazing, only 5 min walk to town and the hosts were very friendly.
Before we left Vinales I asked our hosts to ring Casa Dussac for directions on where they were as the Airbnb map marker was not in the right place. The casa was easy to find with a great sign out front. Located in a nice quiet street just before the town center it’s a great location.
Our hosts can’t really speak much english but with the help of their son and Google translate we did just fine. There is actually WiFi at this casa which is totally awesome, however it was down the whole time we were there. But Im pretty sure that was due to the rain.
Our room was separate to the house and had it’s own entrance upstairs. Inside we had 2 double beds a lovely big clean modern bathroom with hot and cold water plus a fridge packed with water, sodas and beer. There was also air con plus a fan which all worked perfectly.
Eating Experience
As there appeared to be little choice of decent eating places in Playa Larga we choose to have all meals at our casa. We had what appeared to be our own personal chef who arrived to cook all our meals from a very clean kitchen at the back of the 2 upstair rooms. The lady didn’t speak english at all but we got by.
There was always too much food, but all of it delicious. Breakfast consisted of 2 eggs cooked to our lliking, fresh toast, butter, honey, fresh fruit, a different freshly squeezed juice each day and coffee. All for $5 CUC each.
For dinner we were asked what type of meat or fish we would like, one night we had pork which loin pounded flat, very tasty. Next night was chicken done the same way, again tender and tasty. We could have had lobster but not so keen on this.
Nothing had too much salt – it was all perfect. This was a 3 course meal which started with an excellent pork soup (could have just had this by itself it was so good) with chocolate icecream for dessert.
Dinner was $10 CUC each and included again a lovely freshly squeezed fruit juice. Or you could buy a beer for $2 CUC.
Our Opinion
For only $18 USD this casa was excellent value. Our hosts looked after us very well and the food was totally excellent. Would highly recommend staying here.
