Calle Obispo

Closed to Traffic

We’ve walked Obispo Street (Calle Obispo) many times during the day and especially at night. At night you’ll enjoy the many bars and restaurants with live music. During the day the shopping along the cobblestone street is the best in Havana.

Rooftop Bars

Take the lift to the rooftop bar at the Hotel Ambos Mundos for great views of Old Havana. This hotel preserves Ernest Hemingway’s room where he stayed while writing “For Whom the Bell Tolls, there are also photos of him on the back wall of the lobby.

Restaurants

We’ve tried a couple of restaurants on Obispo Street but to be honest they were overpriced and not very good, stick to any of the ones we’ve written about on our restaurants in Havana page instead.

Music and Nightlife

The very pretty Hotel Florida (government owned) has a bar with live music with an excellent salsa club for $10 entry. Be warned the drinks are super expensive.

There is an Etecsa shop in Obispo St for WiFi cards, but there is always a very long queue, get your cards at your hotel or somewhere else. There are touts who will quickly sell you cards for a higher price if you can’t be bothered waiting.
