For only $4 CUC you get a big toasted chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich which we shared between the two of us at the at the Cafe Louvre inside the Hotel Inglaterra. Service is a shocker but worth the hassle. Totally stunning inside the Hotel Inglaterra. Great WiFi, no added tax.
Drink Experience
We started out the night before deciding on dinner in the restaurant at the Hotel Inglaterra. We arrived at 7pm (opening time) and ordered our dinner about 10mins after that, there were a few people in there but not a huge crowd. We waited and waited and waited, saw meals going out to other people before us. When we ask the waitress why, she just shrugged her shoulders and couldn’t tell us anything.
It appeared that the hotel guests were being served some kind of all inclusive type of meal as everyone was getting the exact same thing – before us even though we had arrived after them. After an hour and 45 mins we gave up, paid the bill for our drinks and left.
We also tried their Mojito and felt it was the worst we had had so far, tasted of nothing. My red wine for $4 was quite nice though. Next day we were looking around for lunch and remembered from the night before the cafe at the Hotel Inglaterra sounded quite cheap and looked pretty good.
It was busy, not with that many people actually eating, but sitting in the chairs using their WiFi. We had to sit at the bar before a seat became available. We could have sat outside but it was too busy out there and way too hot. There is always a great cuban band playing outside which is pretty cool.
The interior of the cafe/restaurant and hotel is amazing with elaborate wrought ironwork, patterned tiles and a life size statue of a Spanish dancer in the cafe/bar area. Well worth a look even if you don’t go in and eat. There is a roof top bar which we thought wasn’t worth the visit. Loud music and not so good views, probably great for partying the night away for the young ones.
Eating Experience
We ordered off the cafe / bar menu which was the Super Sandwich of chicken, bacon and cheese. We waited and waited, got annoyed only to find they had forgotten to put in the order. After around 10mins the sandwich finally came out, they then toasted it before serving.
After cutting it in half we thoroughly enjoyed our sandwich. The bread was fresh and the filling tasty.
Not to be confused with their other cheaper sandwiches (except the club sandwich which did look really good also), those were a lot of bread very thickly sliced. Our sandwich was a nice roll.
All washed down with 2 Crystal beers – which could have been just a little colder.
All up the sandwich cost $4 CUC and the beers $2.50 CUC each total $9 CUC, pretty cheap for a lunch in a hotel.
Next day we went back and tried the Jumbo Sandwich for $6 CUC. We thought it might be bigger but same size with sausage instead of Chicken. Much prefer the $4 option.
Our Opinion
Super cheap at only $4 CUC (no extra tax added) for a super toasted chicken, bacon & cheese sandwich roll.
Beers were $2.50 CUC, total cost for lunch was only $9 CUC, great value and would go back.
You’ll have to put up with pretty poor service though. Good WiFi here too.
