Not the cheapest restaurant in Havana but Chef Ivan Justo only cooks what’s in season at this restaurant. Tucked away upstairs in a very cute old building, the food at Ivan Chef Justo is excellent and well worth a visit.
Id read that it would be well worth a visit to Ivan Chef Justo restaurant in Old Havana. It was really early around 5pm when we stumbeled upon the restaurant, I just caught the name on the sign as we walked past.
Seating
It can be pretty easy to miss as the entrance is at street level with stairs going up. There is a guy out front who is meant to advertise the place, but to be honest he wasn’t doing that good a job, he didn’t have a menu to show us.
Anyhow, we wanted to try it out so up to the first floor we went. The decor is really cool with photos, pictures, lights and all sorts of things on the walls making for a busy feel.
The first floor is where the kitchen is and is nicely air-conditioned. From the street it looked like there was a root top floor so we asked if we can go higher, yes sure! There was a skinny spiral stair case in the corner so up we climbed. On the top floor there is a small view, but it’s lovely and open with a nice breeze.
Our waiter spoke really good english and seated us at a cosy table for two. There was only one other couple there but other tables were already booked awaiting their guests.
Eating Experience
The menu is hand written on a board and changes day by day depending on the ingredients available. We knew everything would be nice and fresh.
We ordered some bread to start, it came out very friesh, nice and hot with three lovely dipping sauces and some cheese sticks all for only $2.95 CUC.
We weren’t that hungry so ordered an entree and one main. The entree was mixed Taco’s at $7.69 CUC, which was divine.
Then the main course was Lamb Stew at $16.95 CUC and it was melt in the mouth delicious.
Good job we only ordered the one main as it was so big. This was all washed down with a nice Mojito each at $3.50 CUC.
Our Opinion
Not so cheap but well worth it. If you come early you won’t need to book, but Im sure if you arrived around 7.30pm or so you would be lucky to get a table.
