San Cristobal

It was my birthday, a good excuse to go somewhere nice. San Cristobal Restaurant is brand new with gorgeous views, but a pricey menu. Dinner came to $67 CUC for two.

Ok so it was a special treat for us, not something we often do – only once a year on my birthday ha ha.

San Cristobal restaurant is brand new, only been open for 3 months. We were told it was very popular and needed to book. The day before I walked into the Grand Hotel Manzana Kempinski (where it’s located) and asked the receptionist to book our table.

This hotel is super impressive from the outside, fully renovated and houses upmarket shops inside.

Seating

When we got there the waiter looked down the list of bookings and couldn’t see my name (put it under Sandra, so pretty easy).

Then another guy came along who spoke much better english, looked down the same list and ticked off my name. We had the choice of sitting outside or inside. Inside looked very posh but way too cold with the aircon blasting away and we wanted to look at the views with a nice breeze.

We got to choose our own table, however after 5mins of sitting there we had to move under a bit more cover as it started to rain just a little.

Didn’t last long thank goodness so we got some excellent photos. We didn’t need to book as there were plenty of tables inside empty, however I can imagine in peak season this place would be full.

Eating Experience

The menu wasn’t too big and I was expecting it to be more pricey than it was considering where we were. I ordered a red wine which came in quite a big glass with such a tiny amount in it, but it was only $5 CUC a glass so couldn’t complain too much.

I had the Crunchy Suckling Pig with Sweet & Sour Sauce at $24 CUC, the pork was divine.

Couldn’t taste much sweet & sour but it didn’t matter it was seriously crunchy and melt in the mouth. Pity it was missing some green veg, I was expecting it to come with something.

Garry had Pork Fillet, Potato Puree, Roasted Pumpkin, Pineapple for $19.50 which he enjoyed.

You can visit the restaurant and pool area and not have dinner if you like, lots of other people were doing just that. Sunset is not that good from this roof top, the Hotel Central Plaza has a better view.

Our Opinion

Expensive but very nice with outstanding views from our table. Cost of full meal with drinks $67 CUC, 2 wines and 2 Cobra Libra’s (Rum & Cola).
