It’s a bit of a hike up the hill to get to the top with the Radio Tower in Trinidad, but worth it for the great views over the valleys of Trinidad out to the ocean. The road up to the tower is a bit rough too.
We hadn’t actually planned to walk all the way to the top where the radio tower is located, we were looking for the lookout somewhat closer to town. After not finding the lower lookout spot we decided to just keep on going up the road to the end.
On a hot day this hike is pretty demanding, especially as the road up is really quite rough, so it’s slow going. Once at the top youll be rewarded with the best views of the countryside of Trinidad. If youve done the horse ride into the valley you can see where you actually went from here. The hike will take you about 30mins.
Youll be greeted by a friendly man who watches over the tower and is really keen to show you everything. Follow him around the side of the tower, you aren’t allowed inside, to the homemade rickety ladder leading to a roof top with an even better view. Youll be offered a cold drink, up to you if you want it or not. Youre not asked to pay anything but a small tip for your guide will be very much appreciated.
Our Opinion
Well worth the slog on a hot day to reach the top for the stunning views over Trinidad. Go in the morning when it’s a bit cooler plus your photos will come out better.
Tour Tips
Take lots and lots of mossie spray, there are tons of the little buggers everywhere.
