On our third day in Vinales, we went off to the Santo Tomas Caves. This cave trip is not for everyone, you need to be a bit fit. The tour is 90mins through raw untouched cave systems.
Driving
After a 16km drive from Vinales in our little rental car we arrived at the Santo Tomas Caves.
Parking
The guide books all said they were open at 9am, but this wasn’t quite right, it was more like 9.20am. Plus we then had to pay $1 CUC for car parking, you could park your car further away to save the buck if you wanted to.
Cave Experience
There was only one other couple from Denmark doing the tour with us. After paying our $10 CUC each, we were kitted out with helmets which came with touch lights, then off we go. We didn’t realise there was quite a hike just to get to the entrance of the cave, took about 10mins straight up.
Once inside it was pretty easy going with a few slippy places but nothing too bad. The caves were pretty amazing and the tour lasted for 90mins. We went all the way in, turned around and came out the same way. We really liked the fact that these caves were very original with no lighting or concrete stairs.
Review Summary
For $10 CUC each you get a 90 min tour through these original caves, which we thought were was pretty good value.
