Split Harbor

Split harbor is without any doubt the most vibrant place in the city. Everything is going on right here. Here come the buses, trains and boats. And if you happen to be there between mid July to mid August, Split port looks like a hive.

Split Harbor

Split port isn’t so huge to get lost, but sometimes looks like the most chaotic place in Split city. If you are confused about the dozens of buses, ferries or catamarans sailing in and out the port, it could happen difficult to find your way to your destination.

Port of Split incorporates four different passenger sections located on the relatively tight space. If you decide to travel by train, you’ll arrive at Split railway station. Bus station is just in front of railway station, while the ferry port (car and passengers) consists of three ferry piers (International ferries and local ferries) and catamaran (only passengers) terminal.

Another important terminal (visible on above image) is catamaran terminal. From this terminal departs all fast catamaran connections (only for foot passengers) to Hvar, Brac, Korcula islands and what’s more important to Dubrovnik, Makarska town and Mljet island.

Split Ferry Harbor Docks

All car and passenger ferries depart from two port piers, as shown on the photo. International ferries from or to Italy usually depart from Gat Sv.Duje (Gat means dock or pier) pier. Local car ferries leave from local ferry pier Gat Sv.Petra.

It is important to point out that local ferries to/from Split can not be reserved online. You can technically book your local ferry ticket in advance on Jadrolinija website, but it doesn’t guarantee a space on your ferry.
Finding a ferry ticket in lower season (May to June and September to October) is usually not a problem. But in high season (July and August) you should book a car ferry at least one day in advance. Make sure you show up several hours before departure. Passengers can always find room on board, but vehicle space can quickly fill up.
