Punta Gorda has some pretty stunning mansions, plus the hotel Jagua, Cienfuegos Yacht Club which dates back to 1920 and some expensive restaurants located on the point at La Punta.
Id read that Punta Gorda was an upmarket residence well worth a visit, so off we went to investigate. It’s a bit of a walk along the Malecon passing some lovely small hotels including Club Cienfuegos.
The Palacio de Valle is located here and well worth a visit. We took a look inside the Hotel Jagua, but weren’t very impressed, it looked really dated.
As we had the car we drove up to the point at La Punta where we got stung $1 CUC to park the car. It wasn’t really worth looking at and won’t bother if I was on foot. The water is really brown, the small park had nothing of interest in it.just outside the park are 3 restaurants right on the water with lovely views. All were really expensive we thought.
We stopped in at Club Cienfuegos for a look, the pool was very nice and had a few people in it. If you can bare the very loud blarring music Im sure it’s great. The restaurant downstairs had a good looking menu and not too badly priced. We had decided to go there for dinner, but after a huge dumping of rain the road was a bit flooded, we had to turn around and find somewhere else to eat.
Our Opinion
It’s worth a visit just to see the Palacio de Valle, but not much else. Club Cienfuegos could be a nice place to have dinner.
