After seeing the Flamingos we headed off to Rancho Luna beach, a stop along the way to the fort. Playa Rancho Luna is a big beach popular with the locals with warm water and soft sand.
Drive from Cienfuegos
Itll take you 30mins by car from Cienfuegos, an half hour drive to get to the beach called Playa Rancho Luna. It was a nice stop along the way for us as we left the Flamingo tour and were headed to the Fort.
Parking
There are a couple of big car parks opposite the beach as you approach, which had not a single car in them. We pulled up and out sprung from nowhere a parking guy wanting $1 CUC to park the car. Forget that, we drove up the road a bit and parked under a tree for free.
Beach Experience
The beach is really nice with cleaner water than the beach we went to at Cayo Jutias – add link to page (out from Vinales) but with a few small waves. There didn’t appear to be many beach chairs, Im sure these would cost to use.
Nearby Food
We had decided to have lunch at one of the restaurants, the first one had no ham for the ham & cheese sandwich so we headed to the biggest one with an air con room. There was a lovely breeze on the deck so we stayed there, the view of the beach was really nice.
The ham & cheese sandwich was very average and they tried to overcharge us on the bill yet again. Beers were cheap and cold at only $1.25 CUC each.
Our Opinion
You could quite happily spend all day here lounging around the beach and swimming. The water was clean and warm with soft sand. I wouldn’t bother trying to eat at any of the restaurants though.
Google Map
You’ll find Playa Rancha Luna just south of the La Campana village and slightly east of the Aquarium Delfinario de Cienfuegos.
