You must visit the historic square in Old Havana called Plaza Vieja. This old square is surrounded by beautifully renovated mansions, apartment blocks and a number of good restaurants as well as it’s own brewery.
Ok so the Plaza Vieja is full of tourists, especially if there’s a cruise ship docked. But that shouldn’t deture you from going there. The buidlings are stunning, a must see.
Youll find a good band playing at the brewery on the corner where they pour extremely big beers in ice cooled plastic cyinders. They really are the biggest things Ive seen, but hey, Im not much of a beer drinker.
The square is nicely cobble stoned, which can make it hard to walk on so don’t bring your high heels! Yes there were people out there walking around in their heels!
On one corner of the square is the Camara Oscura located on the top floor. It’s an optical reflection camera that revolves 360 degrees and projects a real time picture of Havana at 30 times magnification into a two meter-wide parabola in a dark room.
The cost to enter the observation deck on the top floor is $2 CUC.
For only $2 CUC we thought wed better go take a look. It was ok, the view from the top of the building was actually better!
