As El Rum Rum is so highly recommended on TripAdvisor plus other blogs we had to go try it for ourselves. We weren’t disappointed, El Rum Rum restaurant lived up to the hype and expectations. Located in Old Havana, it’s easy to find.
As we were walking around Old Havana we passed El Rum Rum restaurant, remembering it was highly praised on TripAdvisor and other blogs, we took a look at the menu. Looked really good, the lady said we should book a table as they get busy, so that we did. We arrived at 7pm and had the best table in the house right by the front window. It was a bit bright inside the restaurant, however that didn’t seem to matter.
We were told the music started at 7.30pm but it was already in action when we got there.just a small group of two, one lady playing the violin and a guy playing the guitar. Both were excellent at playing and singing. The restaurant is split into 3 semi separate rooms so the little band moved around so everyone got a chance to hear them. Very nice.
Eating Experience
The menu at El Rum Rum is quite big, it took us awhile to figure out what we should order. The waiter came over and spoke great English, he recommended we try their Mojito Rum Rum which had two different rums with lemon juice and no sugar. We ordered one of those and another one with sugar for him with the sweet tooth!
At $5.50 CUC a pop they better be good – and they were!
I ordered the Paella Rum Rum with meat not seafood at $10.55 CUC. It arrived in a big dish steaming hot and delicious. We could have ordered just one of these and shared there was too much for just me.
He had the Octopus at $12.75 CUC which came piping hot in a tiny bowl compared to mine. However there was a basket of bread and crackers to go with it. Very nice.
Our Opinion
Well worth it, book ahead to guarantee a table, it was full after we arrived. The service was excellent and the food was really good too, lots to choose from. Happy hour is from 4-6pm when cocktails are just $1.50 CUC.
